Unraveling the Passion Behind Tess & Tango

Travel? It’s in my genes. I am claiming that wanderlust is a genetic trait passed down to me by my mother. She’s always loved exploring new horizons and cultures. Growing up flicking through her photo albums and seeing pictures of her in far off lands, I knew one day I needed to see this world too. My mother’s love of travel and exploration became a pivotal influence in my life and shaped who I am as a person, and ultimately, became the ethos of Tess & Tango.

One of the first trips I went on was with my mother to India after I had just finished high school. We travelled around Rajasthan for 6 weeks and honestly, those 6 weeks solidified what I already knew. This travel thing? It’s for me. All throughout my university days I would go on a trip every chance I got (mostly with Mum!). We would go for months at a time and I even ended up living in Canada and England for a few years after I graduated.

After moving back to Australia and the years of the pandemic, Mum’s stories and photos from every corner of the world continued to bring me so much inspiration. They are what ignited a sense of curiosity within me that led to my own adventures, and became the foundation for Tess & Tango’s collections.

I wanted to find a way to feel inspired everyday like I was walking the streets of Rome, swimming in the Caribbean or climbing mountains in Canada. Tess & Tango aims to seamlessly blend a love for travel with the tranquility of bedtime. Like my mum did for me, we encourage you to embrace your own travel inspired dreams and explore the world, one bedtime story at a time.

There will never be words to describe my gratitude to her for this passion she has given me and for showing me the world is full of wonders waiting to be explored. I like to think of it as a genetic gift (I guess it could be a curse too but that’s a story for a different time!). I wouldn’t have been able to see half the things I’ve seen in this world without her encouraging and supporting me through it all.

So I guess what I am saying is: Thank you, Mum. For everything.

Ps. What’s for dinner? I’m coming over.
